Spanish energy technology company Linkener has closed a €7.5 million funding round spearheaded by Klima Energy Transition Fund, the energy transition investment vehicle of Alantra, with participation from returning investor GoHub Ventures. The capital will fuel advancement of Linkener's core energy management technology, embedding of artificial intelligence systems, and expansion via targeted acquisitions.
Linkener operates an Intelligent Energy Management System (SIGE) built on proprietary remote metering infrastructure. The platform enables organisations and businesses to observe, measure and refine their power usage patterns. Through the system, users gain the ability to review consumption against their own records, process and verify energy invoices, examine contract terms with suppliers, and obtain notifications alongside actionable guidance aimed at uncovering cost reduction opportunities and strengthening energy expenditure oversight.
Beyond its software offering, Linkener delivers hands-on support for energy efficiency initiatives. The company has completed over 400 installations of solar and battery storage systems throughout Spain. Its customer base encompasses more than 2,000 organisations managing 10,000 distinct energy supply connections, collectively representing 1.7 TWh of yearly consumption.
The startup identifies substantial growth potential in sectors where digitalisation of energy tracking remains underdeveloped. Within service industries particularly, systematic consumption oversight and management can unlock efficiency gains reaching 20 per cent. Market conditions favour such solutions: energy price volatility, increasingly intricate supplier agreements, and evolving regulatory frameworks are pushing organisations to seek platforms that deliver transparency and command over energy spending.
This funding round will allow us to accelerate the transformation of a highly fragmented sector, where energy management remains rooted in practices from 40 years ago. We want businesses to have reliable data and technology to understand how much they spend on energy, anticipate their costs and make better decisions.
José Ignacio Ruiz, CEO of Linkener
Linkener intends to leverage the fresh capital to deepen its technology capabilities and refine proprietary machine learning models tailored to energy management applications. The strategy centres on merging AI with sophisticated data analysis techniques to streamline energy information and invoice handling, pinpoint irregularities, and surface opportunities for expense reduction and operational efficiency.
The funding also backs Linkener's direct expansion efforts alongside a strategy of acquiring complementary firms, platforms and technical capabilities. Through these acquisitions, Linkener aims to broaden its product portfolio, enhance its technological foundation, and strengthen its market and operational position.
