Samsung SDI has entered into a new supply partnership with U.S.-based energy storage developer and power producer Alpha Omega Power (AOP). The latest agreement calls for battery storage systems totaling one gigawatt-hour in capacity. When combined with an earlier contract finalized in late 2025, the two deals together represent 1.5 GWh of committed supply. The company has not released pricing information regarding either arrangement. AOP intends to deploy these storage systems across major electricity generation initiatives throughout the United States, with construction expected to commence in 2027.

Through this agreement, Samsung SDI will furnish its Samsung Battery Box (SBB) 1.7 integrated energy storage solution. Manufacturing of all battery cells and modules will take place at the StarPlus Energy facility located in Kokomo, Indiana. Samsung SDI has indicated that shipments are targeted for completion by the close of 2026.
The platform incorporates prismatic battery cells utilizing high-nickel nickel cobalt aluminum chemistry formulation. The manufacturer reports that energy density in this iteration reaches 17 percent higher levels compared to the earlier SBB 1.5 model. Samsung SDI positions the system for 25 years of uninterrupted service capability.
Machine learning-based algorithms have been integrated to identify irregularities at an early stage and forecast remaining battery lifespan. Regarding fire safety measures, Samsung SDI employs a proprietary mechanism that distributes fire suppression agents straight into separate battery modules.
