SVOLT Energy Technology, a manufacturer based in China, has shifted its semi-solid-state battery technology into mass production. The company's Changzhou facility in Jiangsu Province has begun rolling out the first units of its 100 kWh battery packs, representing a significant milestone in bringing this advanced cell chemistry to industrial scale.

Dragon Armor: 6C Fast Charging and 3,000-Cycle Lifespan

SVOLT's offering, branded as Dragon Armor, incorporates cells built with a semi-solid electrolyte material. According to the manufacturer, the battery pack enables charging at 6C rates and reaches operating voltages of up to 900 volts. The design includes liquid cooling systems positioned on both upper and lower surfaces of the pack.

The charging architecture delivers sufficient capacity for roughly 500 kilometers of range within 12 minutes, according to SVOLT's specifications. The company also claims the cells will endure more than 3,000 full charge cycles throughout their service life. The manufacturer has not yet revealed the testing methodology used to validate these claims or provided details on the volume of the initial production run.

Semi-solid-state battery technology occupies a middle ground between two other approaches: it blends solid and liquid components within the electrolyte structure. This contrasts with traditional lithium-ion cells, which rely entirely on liquid electrolytes, and all-solid-state designs, which use fully solid electrolytes.

Chairman Yang Hongxin shared news of the production launch through a video posted on Weibo, the Chinese social media service. He noted that "several customers are considering the 100 kWh battery pack," though he did not name any of them.

SVOLT had previously communicated expectations for semi-solid-state battery manufacturing to commence in 2027. The current announcement demonstrates that the company has accelerated this timeline considerably, bringing production online well ahead of the original schedule.
