An Italian artificial intelligence company focused on tax automation has secured €1.8 million in seed funding to expand its agentic platform for the accounting and tax professions. VC Partners led the round, joined by Growth Engine, AME Ventures, Zest (through its Magic Mind vehicle), Alpha Venture, and several industry-focused business angels.

Rulen, which launched in late 2025 following a rebrand from its former identity as LexSA, operates an AI operating system designed to streamline tax and accounting workflows. The platform removes manual repetition from professional tasks while maintaining compliance oversight, and it connects with existing tools and third-party systems—including Italy's Cassetto Fiscale taxpayer records system—to orchestrate processes spanning data ingestion through document generation.

The Italian tax profession faces mounting structural pressures that Rulen aims to address. New entries into the field have dropped 27.3 per cent, with professionals under 40 representing merely 15 per cent of the workforce. Simultaneously, many practices continue operating through manual processes and disconnected software stacks, creating friction that automation could relieve without requiring proportional headcount expansion.

Currently, Rulen serves law and tax practices, specialist consultancies, professional firm networks, and multinational corporations seeking to streamline their compliance operations.

The rebrand from LexSA to Rulen signals the company's evolution beyond AI-assisted research toward a system capable of executing complete workflows autonomously. Simone Hong, co-founder and chief executive, framed the funding and name change as pivotal to this trajectory:

Our goal is to make AI adoption simple, concrete and scalable. With this round and the move to Rulen, we want to accelerate our transformation from assistant to agentic platform, capable of automating end-to-end workflows without professionals losing control and verifiability.

Claudio Cama, co-founder and chief technology officer, outlined the company's roadmap to expand automation coverage by connecting additional systems and deploying AI agents capable of autonomous execution, freeing professionals to concentrate on strategic judgment calls rather than operational tasks.

The capital injection will fuel accelerated product development and commercial scaling, alongside team expansion in sales, marketing, and product functions. The company also plans to hire additional tax specialists to deepen domain expertise across its operations.
