Legora, a Swedish artificial intelligence platform serving the legal sector, has secured $550 million in Series E funding at a valuation of $8.8 billion. The round closes merely half a year after the company completed its preceding $600 million Series D at a $5.6 billion valuation, representing a significant jump in the company's worth.

Boston-based Atreides Management led the funding round as a new backer, joined by additional first-time investors Baron Capital, Capital Group, Fidelity, Glade Brook Capital Partners, and JP Morgan. Returning investors participating in the round span Accel, Benchmark, Bessemer Venture Partners, General Catalyst, Iconiq, Insight Venture Partners, Redpoint Ventures, Salesforce Ventures, and Sands Capital.

The company structured the round to attract investors with extended time horizons, combining long-term holders with strategic backers and institutions that maintain regular relationships with law firms and corporate legal departments. Legora intends to deploy the capital toward geographic expansion and advancing its agentic operating system technology.

Legora's platform leverages AI to assist legal professionals with research, document review, and contract drafting tasks. The startup competes directly with Harvey, a US-based rival, as both companies seek to reshape the legal services market through artificial intelligence.

The company has observed a notable shift in its customer composition. In-house legal teams, which represented a marginal portion of Legora's client base a year prior, now constitute over 40 percent of new customer acquisitions in the third quarter. The United States has emerged as Legora's largest market.

Legora maintains a North American footprint spanning New York, Denver, Chicago, Houston, San Francisco, Toronto, and Mexico City, alongside operations across Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. The fresh funding will support expansion across these geographies and continued development of its technology platform.

Max Junestrand, Legora's chief executive and co-founder, commented on the company's trajectory: "The opportunity in legal is enormous and we are still early. AI is changing the role of the lawyer, with more time for judgment and advice, and it is reshaping how law firms and in-house legal teams are organized and how their work gets done. We intend to lead that shift in the US and globally. We chose investors who share our long-term view and know what it takes to build a lasting company. They are the right partners for the years ahead."

Legora ranks among Sweden's most prominent startup ventures, alongside Lovable, as the Nordic nation continues to produce high-profile technology companies.
