The week highlighted the continent's deepening focus on industrial competitiveness and cross-border collaboration in advanced technologies, with founders pursuing ventures ranging from satellite communications infrastructure to consumer-facing transparency tools.
Major funding rounds
Universal Quantum, a spinout from the University of Sussex, secured what it describes as a "record" $100 million Series A investment. Meanwhile, German energy company Reverion closed a €154 million round and announced plans to establish a new factory with 800 new hires.
Acquisitions and mergers
Enterprise software giant SAP acquired Belgian startup TechWolf in what was characterized as a record deal for a Belgian venture capital-backed company. In Germany, HR and payroll platform Personio bought Circula to consolidate payroll, expense management and benefits services. French financial technology company Sovos acquired Flowie, a French firm specializing in autonomous financial management agents.
Investor activity
Endeavor Catalyst announced a $320 million Fund V, doubling its commitment to the European market, which the firm identified as its fastest-expanding region. Dutch-focused investor Graduate Ventures launched a €125 million second seed fund targeting technology startups in the Netherlands. Nevermind VC began operations with a €23.6 million first close dedicated to dual-use deeptech ventures.
Market trends and ecosystem developments
European startups raised €15.8 billion in September, nearly five times the funding volume recorded in August. The continent's technology ecosystem continued to expand through strategic collaborations: ARX Robotics and Roboneers intensified their partnership on unmanned ground vehicles for use in Ukraine, while The Fourth Law and Odd Systems launched Project Foundation with the goal of quadrupling European thermal sensor manufacturing capacity.
The United Kingdom connected its London deeptech cluster with manufacturing capabilities in the West Midlands through a new Scaleup Pathway initiative. A separate analysis found that alumni from Delivery Hero have founded 150 startups collectively valued at €7.5 billion, establishing the company as Europe's largest founder factory.

Estonian satellite communications company Golbriak Space raised €4 million for laser-based communication systems serving satellite constellations. German agritech startup Finches secured €2 million to expand its supply chain risk detection platform for food producers. Danish financial technology platform TODAY closed a €2.8 million round to scale its artificial intelligence tools for financial advisors. Italian B2B sales platform SimpL raised €1.2 million powered by AI capabilities. Dutch marketing technology company Innercrowd completed a €750,000 funding round to develop its platform converting festival attendees into brand marketers.
