Tuesday morning brought widespread disruption to Google Cloud's London infrastructure, with the tech giant reporting failures across 36 services in its europe-west2 region. The incident rippled through companies relying on the platform, most visibly affecting fintech Revolut, whose customers found themselves unable to access the app or complete card transactions.
Revolut, headquartered in London, operates both its application and backend infrastructure on Google Cloud. A source speaking to Reuters confirmed that the fintech's outage stemmed directly from the Google Cloud disruption. The two organizations had deepened their partnership just months earlier through a multi-year agreement signed in September 2025, which encompasses AI-powered fraud detection capabilities that Revolut deploys across its platform.
Timeline and scope of the disruption
Google's service health dashboard indicated the incident commenced at 07:08 UK time within the europe-west2 region. The company identified 36 impacted products spanning its core infrastructure offerings: Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine, Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage and BigQuery among them. Users experienced elevated error rates alongside intermittent network connectivity issues.
We apologize to all who are affected by the disruption
Google, on its service health page
Google advised customers to redirect their workloads to alternative zones or regions as a temporary measure while engineering teams investigated the underlying cause. The company had not disclosed the root cause at the time of reporting.
Revolut's impact across Europe
Revolut's service degradation began approximately one hour after Google's incident, around 8am UK time. The disruption affected users spanning the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Spain, Romania and Germany. Revolut's status dashboard showed most functionality as either completely unavailable or operating at reduced capacity, with card payments and cash withdrawal features particularly affected.
The company operates at significant scale, serving over 80 million personal account holders alongside its business customer base. Revolut confirmed that a technical issue had impaired several core features but maintained that customer funds and data remained secure throughout the incident.
Broader impact and recovery timeline
Beyond Revolut, outage monitoring service Downdetector recorded a spike in Google Cloud-related incident reports during the morning hours. Separately, ING Germany reported that certain customers experienced login difficulties with its online banking platform and mobile application due to an unrelated technical issue, which Reuters did not attribute to the Google Cloud outage.
Neither Google nor Revolut had communicated a timeline for full service restoration at the time of this report.
