Hello Group, the publicly traded company operating dating services happn and Coffee Meets Bagel, has taken a majority stake in Inner Circle, an Amsterdam-based platform known for vetting its membership. The transaction was announced jointly by both parties, though financial specifics and the exact percentage of ownership remain undisclosed.

Launched in 2012, Inner Circle operates with approximately 9 million members concentrated primarily across Europe and Latin America. The platform distinguishes itself through a selective onboarding process that evaluates applicants before granting access, then facilitates introductions based on compatibility factors including shared pastimes, personal values and lifestyle preferences.

The service has positioned itself as a counterpoint to swipe-centric dating models. Beyond its matching functionality, Inner Circle organises community-driven features termed Circles and hosts offline gatherings enabling face-to-face connections among its user base.

Following the acquisition, Inner Circle will preserve its existing brand identity and maintain its operational headquarters in Amsterdam. User information will continue operating under the protections of the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Hello Group intends to leverage its engineering capabilities, product expertise and operational infrastructure to support Inner Circle's expansion into additional geographic regions. The acquisition aligns with the company's broader strategy of cultivating a diverse collection of platforms serving distinct social and romantic connection preferences.

Beyond happn and Coffee Meets Bagel, Hello Group's portfolio encompasses Momo and tantan, both prominent in the Chinese market, alongside Soulchill.
