By embedding artificial intelligence directly into the browser interface, Strawberry enables business teams without technical expertise to construct AI agents tailored to their specific workflows. The Swedish company, now backed by General Catalyst, alongside co-founders from Lovable and Hugging Face, is positioning its browser-based platform as a direct competitor to established AI assistants in the enterprise space.
Founded in 2023, Strawberry operates with a 12-person team from Stockholm and has designed its platform to democratize AI adoption across organizations. Rather than limiting AI tools to developers, the startup targets business functions including sales, recruiting, customer support and marketing, where employees can build what the company terms "companions"—AI agents configured for particular business tasks.
The platform remains model-agnostic and supplies pre-built agents that teams can deploy immediately. These virtual colleagues accumulate knowledge about organizational processes and workflows, improving their effectiveness as they interact with team members. According to Strawberry, "Strawberry is unique in that it is a browser where a team's context, workflows and logins already live. A companion remembers how your team works and gets better the more you work together, because it is connected to all of that context."
Charles Maddock, the company's CEO in his mid-twenties, co-founded Strawberry alongside Sebastian Thunman as COO and Arian Hanifi as CTO. Maddock previously founded a climate technology startup that was acquired. When asked about competitive positioning, Maddock stated: "I would say that we compete much more with the big agent platforms like Claude, ChatGPT, Grok Bot and Gemini."
The decision to build Strawberry as a browser stemmed from how modern work actually unfolds. Maddock explained: "The reason we chose to make Strawberry a browser on your device is because if you think about the work you do on a daily basis, you are not in 10 different files on your computer, you are actually in ten different tabs inside your browser." He further noted that "The technology is already here: agents can now work for weeks in a row."
Early adopters include Lovable, a Swedish startup utilizing Strawberry to identify engineering talent, and Tandem Health. Users have also constructed assistants for sales prospecting activities. The platform launched in beta approximately one year ago with a select group of initial clients.
Strawberry addresses growing European demand for data sovereignty, as its agents execute locally on user devices rather than relying on remote servers like conventional AI platforms. The company offers a free tier alongside three subscription levels: $20 per month, $85 per month and $250 per month, with pricing determined by credit consumption.
In October, Strawberry disclosed a $6 million funding round led by General Catalyst and EQT Ventures, with additional investment from co-founders of Lovable, Supabase and Hugging Face. Maddock indicated that Series A fundraising would commence as the company prepares to expand operations throughout Europe and North America.
