Alchera Technologies, established in 2016 and based in Cambridge, has announced the completion of a £2.7m seed funding round. The investment will enable the firm to accelerate development of its products and roll out its technology across more markets.
Maven Capital Partners spearheaded the round, investing £2m through the British Business Bank's South West Investment Fund. The funding syndicate also included the Baves Entrepreneurship Fund, The FSE Group, and Innovate UK's Investor Partnership programme. Cambridge Applied Research, an existing backer, also participated in this latest financing.
The company operates at the intersection of artificial intelligence and transport infrastructure, providing decision-support tools to local authorities, highways operators and their consultants. Its platform aggregates diverse transport datasets and contextual information, applying proprietary machine learning algorithms to assess network performance and identify intervention opportunities. According to Alchera, the system compresses what traditionally requires weeks of analysis into seconds, fundamentally reshaping how major infrastructure decisions are made.
Among its current clients are Lancashire City Council and the City of York Council, both of which rely on the platform to manage their transport networks.
Anna Jordan, co-founder and chief executive, commented on the significance of the funding: "Every journey - to work, to school, to an appointment - depends on decisions someone made about a road or a bus route. Right now, these decisions often take weeks; despite the necessary data existing, it's scattered across systems, formats and teams. We've seen how when you put that data together, you're no longer making decisions on instinct and incomplete data but with the full picture instead. That directly has real-world impacts like reduced disruption from roadworks and more robust networks - making transport infrastructure more reliable, resilient and affordable for all road users."
