Legal technology company Jónsbók, based in Iceland's capital, has attracted investment from venture capital firms Crowberry Capital and Leo Capital. The funding will fuel the company's efforts to enhance its product and establish a stronger foothold throughout Europe. Jónsbók operates an artificial intelligence platform designed specifically for legal professionals, enabling them to perform jurisdiction-tailored legal research, prepare legal documents and correspondence, process extensive document sets, and evaluate legal situations by referencing pertinent legal authorities. The two investors have not made public the size of their investment.

Platform and Market Focus

The Jónsbók platform serves lawyers and legal teams with tools spanning legal research, document and email creation, bulk document analysis, and legal position assessment grounded in relevant legal sources. The system recognizes and accommodates variations across national legal frameworks, languages, and professional practices. Its user base spans law firms, government bodies, financial services organizations, and insurance providers operating across seven jurisdictions in Scandinavia and the region stretching from Central Europe eastward.

Jónsbók began operations in Iceland during 2025, then moved into other European territories in early 2026. The company's strategy emphasizes legal AI tools that respect the distinct characteristics of each nation's laws, languages, and legal traditions, rather than deploying generic AI systems that may overlook local regulatory nuances.

Founder Perspectives

Every jurisdiction has its own laws, language and legal practices, and we believe legal AI needs to reflect that reality. We've built Jónsbók with that challenge at its core, combining advanced AI technology with accurate, locally grounded legal research. Having Crowberry and Leo Capital join us on this journey will allow us to accelerate product development and bring Jónsbók to more legal professionals across Europe.

Bjarni Bragi Jónsson, CEO and Co-founder of Jónsbók

Our growth across European markets has reinforced something we've believed from the beginning: happy users are our strongest advocates. Seeing not only our customer base grow, but also how deeply customers are engaging with Jónsbók, is particularly encouraging. Word of mouth has been an important driver of our growth, and this investment will help us build on that momentum, strengthen our presence in existing markets and bring Jónsbók to more legal professionals across Europe.

Geographic Expansion and Traction

Following its launch beyond Iceland, Jónsbók has established presence in Scandinavian countries, the Baltic region, and Central and Eastern European territories. Finland has emerged as a particularly significant market, where the company has invested in building a local team and cultivating customer relationships.

Investor Rationale

Crowberry Capital operates as an early-stage venture investor concentrating on technology enterprises throughout the Nordic region. Leo Capital functions as a venture fund with operations spanning multiple continents, with headquarters in Singapore and Helsinki. Both firms are supporting Jónsbók's international scaling efforts.

As early stage investors the team is the core of our investment decisions. We have continually been impressed by the Jónsbók team. The team has in-depth understanding of how to address the AI needs of the legal market and have been quick to execute on their vision to make quality legal research efficient and accurate.

Helga Valfells, General and Founding Partner, Crowberry Capital

The investors highlighted the founding team's distinctive combination of technical proficiency and legal sector knowledge as a key reason for their backing. Leo Capital's Henry Goodwin underscored the significance of AI solutions tailored to regional legal systems and languages. Valfells from Crowberry Capital emphasized the team's grasp of what the legal profession requires and its track record in advancing legal research technology.

Buyers of legal technology have become far more sophisticated and are now looking beyond generic tools. Jónsbók combines engineering excellence with genuine legal expertise to deliver AI-powered legal work grounded in local law and language. With customers across multiple European markets and a growing pipeline spanning several more countries, the team is already demonstrating how well this model can scale across jurisdictions. We are delighted to be partnering with them.
