Agora Labs, an Italian deeptech firm founded in Rome, has closed a €4.3 million funding round spearheaded by venture capital firm P101 SGR. The Mussetto family, who own Infinite Five—a holding company operating in marketing technology, data analysis and robotics—also participated in the round.

The company was established by Davide Zaccagnini, a vascular surgeon and biomedical informatician serving as CEO, alongside engineer Fabio Giulietto. Their mission centres on building infrastructure that allows hospitals to leverage clinical data for medical research and scientific advancement while maintaining patient privacy through anonymisation.

Healthcare systems worldwide accumulate vast quantities of clinical information that could fuel medical discovery and accelerate development of new treatments and diagnostics. Yet much of this data remains underutilised: it sits fragmented across disparate IT platforms and frequently exists in unstructured, difficult-to-analyse formats.

Federated infrastructure keeps data local

Agora Labs tackles this problem through an infrastructure model that processes and standardises clinical data without moving it outside hospital systems. The company deploys dedicated computing nodes at healthcare partner sites, equipped with GPUs from technology partner NVIDIA. Specialised large language models then structure and standardise the information, with anonymisation safeguards protecting patient identities.

Using federated AI technology, the system links participating hospitals together, enabling research institutions and pharmaceutical firms to run studies across multiple healthcare facilities without ever directly accessing individual patient records. AI models are trained and validated on-site, with only their outputs and inferences transmitted across the broader network.

This architecture enables healthcare organisations to maintain ownership and control of their data while simultaneously allowing researchers to work with information spanning larger patient cohorts distributed across different nations. Agora Labs currently operates an international network encompassing 50 healthcare facilities, with plans to double this footprint in coming months.

Expansion plans and market positioning

The fresh capital will support Agora Labs in accelerating its healthcare network expansion and enabling larger-scale international research initiatives. According to Zaccagnini, "The arrival of P101 and Infinite Five in Agora Labs addresses two specific needs: scaling our data network even faster and activating global-scale projects on it. Resources matter, but what counts most is experience, market understanding, international credibility and genuine strategic collaboration within the board."

Agora Labs participates in the Real World Evidence (RWE) sector, which harnesses clinical data gathered during routine medical practice to inform research and healthcare solution development.

The company intends to strengthen its footprint across Europe and North America while establishing operations in emerging markets including the Middle East and India. Over the coming months, Agora Labs plans to hire approximately 20 technical and commercial staff members to support its geographic and operational growth.
